Our Story
Every family has a story. Ours is built on faith, love, and the certainty that every life is a sacred gift from God. We are Fabiano and Miriam, and we have been blessed with four wonderful children: Beatriz, Cecília, Mateus, and our little one, Maria.
From the beginning, our family has always been open to life. The news of Miriam’s pregnancy in 2024 was received with immense joy. Maria was already loved and awaited by all of us from the very first moment, from her conception. Every kick, every ultrasound, was a celebration of the new soul God was entrusting to us.
Her arrival, however, was more emotional than we could have ever imagined.
An Unforgettable Birth
On June 9, 2025, in a race against time, Maria decided she couldn’t wait any longer. She was born right there, inside our car, at the entrance of the Santa Casa de Anápolis Hospital. It was a triumphant arrival, full of adrenaline, that already announced the strength and unique personality she carried with her.
Along with the joy of her birth, we also received news that took us by surprise: the moment Miriam held her, she saw that Maria had Down syndrome. In that moment, as Fabiano went to call the nurses to help cut the umbilical cord, the two of them were alone for a moment, and Miriam only had time to say: “You have Down syndrome, my little daughter, but don’t worry, mommy will always be with you.” At that moment, amidst the emotion of the birth, the world seemed to stop for an instant. A whirlwind of questions and uncertainties arose in our minds, not only because of the Trisomy but also because of the surgery Maria would have to undergo to correct duodenal atresia.
The Love That Overcomes Everything
But amidst so many questions, one certainty remained unshakable: our love for her. The fact that we discovered Maria had Down syndrome the moment she was born never, not for a second, diminished our love or our trust in God. She was the same daughter we had loved since conception, the same precious soul we had awaited with so much affection.
We understood that God, in His infinite wisdom, entrusted us with a special mission with Maria’s arrival. A mission of unconditional love, of overcoming challenges, and, above all, of sharing. We realized that many of our initial doubts and fears came from a lack of information and the excess of myths surrounding T21.
The Beginning of a Purpose
It was from this experience, this faith that sustains us, and the overflowing love for Maria, that sindromededown.org was born.
This website is our way of extending a hand to other families who may be going through the same whirlwind of emotions we did. It is a space to show that a diagnosis does not define a child. It is a place to share the truth that a life with Trisomy 21 is a full life, filled with joy, challenges, and a love that transforms everything around it.
This is the story of Maria, a beloved girl who came into the world in an extraordinary way to teach us about true strength, pure joy, and the depth of faith. And this is our story, of a family that became even more complete and blessed by her presence.
